The Waste Hero: Reduce to Zero Master Teacher Training Sessions aimed to empower and enrich teachers’ understanding about waste management and circular economy so they can create lesson plans, apply the Waste Hero Educational Resources to the classroom activities and co-curriculum programmes, and encourage the students to take active actions in saving environment. The Master Teacher Training was arranged for 2 sessions: (1) for primary school teachers and (2) for secondary school teachers. Each training session took 3 hours with practical knowledge on waste management and classroom activities.

Ms Duriya Amatavivat, Centre Director of SEAMEO Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainability (SEAMEO SEPS), gave the opening message to the participants. This was followed by an overview of Waste Hero Educational Resources and SEAMEO SEPS Waste Hero Development Co-Campaign.

The lively training sessions were conducted by trainers and specialists from the Ministry of Education, Thailand, namely, Ms Pornpimon Tangsakul, Ms Supawan Chumi, Mr Suthon Promlee, Mr Anuwat Kaewma, Mrs Tirada Chysiya, and Mr Kittipon Tammahon.

The trainers guided participating teachers through the 19 free Waste Hero lesson packages; showed key aspects of waste management and circular economy; and walked through the lessons with participants so they will be able to design and prepare Waste Hero lesson activities that fully engage their students.

The training sessions drew to a close with a special message from Mr Colm Jordan, Global Head of Advocacy and Education, Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL).

To measure the effectiveness of the training sessions and follow-up the implementation of Waste Hero education resources, participating teachers are required to submit a post-training report by the end of September 2023. Further sessions for teachers from Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia will be arranged consecutively in September 2023.
