From 19-20 September 2023, SEAMEO SEPS representatives joined a regional research forum to develop the Southeast Asian Framework for Motivation of Teachers in Staying in the Profession. The forum was organised by the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) in Quezon city, Philippines. At the forum, participants shared information regarding national contexts, policies, and factors affecting the motivation of teachers and teacher retention through thoughtful and insightful presentations. The inputs from the first day were consolidated in a working draft of the Southeast Asian Framework.
On the first day, representatives of SEAMEO SEPS, Ms. Piyapa Su-angavatin (Programme Officer) and Mr. Thanapon Khanthawichai (Curriculum Development Officer) attended the roundtable discussion and shared Thailand’s national contexts and relevant information regarding the status of teachers and the teaching profession as well as professional development of teachers.
On the second day of the forum, SEAMEO SEPS and other delegates exchanged ideas on creating motivating mechanisms towards the retention of teachers including ways to inspire them to work with a love of teaching to achieve a better quality of education for students.
