On 1 November 2023, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for Sustainability (SEAMEO SEPS), hosted the third webinar in the SEP - SDGs in Action: Virtual Learning Series on the topic, “Transforming Education to a Brighter Future”.

The webinar took viewers on a journey which began by identifying global and regional trends in education transformation. Ms. Maki Hayashikawa, Director of UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Jakarta, Indonesia provided a detailed and informative update on progress made since the Transforming Education Summit, convened by the UN in 2022. The second speaker, Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela, Education Advisor to the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Committee (ASCC) Research and Development Platform, ASEAN Secretariat gave perspectives on the future of education, looking at the implications, opportunities, and challenges ahead.

The next speakers gave concrete examples of policy in action. Dr. Sampan Silapanad, Vice President, Hard Disk Drive Operations, Thailand Western Digital Storage Technologies (Thailand) Ltd., and long-term advocate for Cooperative Education, highlighted the dynamic synergy between education and business. And last, but by no means least, Ms. Apt. Tintin Hermawati, School Principal, Al-Wafa Vocational High School, South Bandung, Indonesia demonstrated how technologies can make learning irresistibly engaging. Ms. Hermawati was joined by her Al-Wafa team including Mr. Cecep Abdurrahman, Teacher in Broadcasting & Film; Mr. Rifky Sahib Nugraha, Teacher in the Metaverse Team & Curriculum Division; and Mr. Ilham Rizky Galih Putra, student, Metaverse Team.

Ms. Duriya Amatavivat, Centre Director of SEAMEO SEPS, welcomed participants to the webinar, which was broadcast live on SEAMEO SEPS’s YouTube channel. The webinar was joined live by 390 participants and as of 2 November had over 1,800 views.
